Homeschool Tutoring

We understand that home schooled students may benefit from tutoring to help support their learning and development and that each student will be aided by specific tutoring plans.

BTA can provide this assistance to your child through our tutors who are
specifically trained to teach home schooled students and develop short- and long-term structures that can supplement their at-home learning.

How our tutoring can assist home schooled students

NESA Registration Requirement for Homeschooling
How our Tutoring can Assist
The child’s educational program is based on and taught in accordance with the relevant NESA syllabuses as determined by the Act, that is, the minimum curriculum for primary education (Kindergarten to Year 6), the minimum curriculum for secondary education (Years 7 to 10) or the curriculum for senior secondary education (Years 11 and 12)
BTA tutors are well versed in the NSW curriculum and can ensure lessons are focused on syllabus-based outcomes.
The educational program is suitable to cater for the identified learning needs of the child
BTA tutors can conduct informal assessments in initial lessons to determine a student’s current strengths and areas for improvement.

This helps to ensure that lessons are focused on content which is most beneficial to the student.

Homeschool Tutoring Package

BTA is proud to present our complete home-school tutoring package. This package has been developed to provide comprehensive support to home-schooled students by assisting them with goal setting and organisation, meeting NESA’s home schooling requirements, subject matter, record keeping and assessments.

Whilst we are happy to tailor our tutoring services to the individual needs of any student this package has been assembled off the back of years and years of practical tutoring experience, and we believe it provides students the best opportunity to achieve their personal best.

The package includes 2 parts:

  1. The Initial 4 organisational and assessment sessions which take a total of 5.5 hours

  2. Subsequent and ongoing organisational and core subject tutoring

The details of each session are detailed below:

1. Initial Session 1: SMART Goal Setting and Understanding of Student’s Needs – 1 hour

In this session, we will work together to establish short-term, medium-term and long-term SMART goals based on what you’re trying to achieve for your child through home schooling. We will discuss the various ways in which BTA can assist you to achieve those goals whether they be academic, behavioural or both.

2. Initial Session 2: Development of Educational Program on NESA’s syllabuses – 1.5 hours

Once we understand your child’s needs, we can help to develop an educational program that helps to address all aspects of NESA’s syllabuses to meet the home schooling requirements.

We can provide relevant resources, assist with research and assessments or allocate applicable classwork or homework. We can then use this information to develop a weekly schedule going forward to ensure all requirements are met.

3. Initial Session 3: Initial Informal Assessment for maths and English – 2 hours

Once the organisational side of our home schooling tutoring has been organised, we’ll conduct an informal assessment on the student’s maths and English skills. We’ll be looking for the student’s current strengths as well as areas for improvement so we can prioritise the most relevant content going forward for them.

This is a pivotal part of the process as it also picks up on any gaps that a student may have in their knowledge. This has become more commonly seen amongst students due to the effects of home schooling and the pandemic.

4. Initial Session 4: Development of record keeping and assessment systems – 1 hour

A pivotal aspect of home schooling is keeping good records of the content that’s been covered, when it was covered, notes from the content and all the associated assessments related to that content.

We’ll use this session to develop a convenient method for record keeping and assessments. This will include inbuilt assessments, informal BTA assessments and any required external assessments.

5. Subsequent sessions: Ongoing review – 2-3 hours/week

Now all the systems, processes and organisational aspects have been organised, it’s time to build up into a regular tutoring schedule.

We recommend 1 hour per week to assist with work allocation and general organisation. We then recommend around 2-3 hours per week of subject based tutoring, primarily covering maths and English. These requirements will differ for each student and we can tailor the program to your particular needs.

Further, if you prefer, tutoring can take place during weekdays face-to-face in one of our academies or online.

Often home schooling students benefit from the social interaction of face-to-face lessons but sometimes the convenience of online lessons can also be great. We can also arrange a combination of both face-to-face and online lessons.
